Try my Hot Cross Bun Bread Sauce this Easter! I mean, traditional bread sauce is one of the great, classic British sauces enjoyed over Christmas, but why can’t you enjoy it over an Easter roast dinner? My bread sauce is packed with delicious flavour and is super simple to make. It is also a great way to use up leftover hot cross buns.

Ingredients

  • 300 ml Milk

  • 150 ml Double cream

  • 20 g Unsalted butter

  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg

  • 1 Large onion

  • 3/4 Hot cross buns

  • Salt, to taste

  • Tools
  • Food processor

Directions

  • Finely chop the onion and cook in a saucepan over medium heat with the butter for 5 minutes.
  • Then, place the milk, double cream, nutmeg, and seasoning into a large saucepan and bring to a boil on high heat. Once boiled, turn the heat off and leave for 7 minutes. This will infuse the flavours.
  • In a food processor (or roughly chopped), add your hot cross buns and blitz. Then add to the saucepan and combine well. You should have a thick texture ready to serve up with your roast dinner.
