The best street food spots to visit in Devon

Nestled in the heart of the South West, Devon is not just a picturesque haven of rolling hills and stunning coastlines; it’s a culinary treasure trove waiting to be explored.

From tantalising aromas wafting through the streets to innovative and unique dishes, Croyde emerges as the go-to hub for exciting street food.

Devon’s food spots promise an experience that’s as unforgettable as its scenic beauty, but where to start? While I’ve called Croyde home during my exciting culinary journey, so to have I been able to experience the wondrous food that my neighbours in street food have to offer.

In this post, I’ll dive into Devon’s top 7 street food spots so you know their specialities, the general vibes, and where to sink your teeth into on your visit.

The Glorious Oyster - Seafood

The Glorious Oyster - Seafood

Perched on the shores of Sandhills in Instow, The Glorious Oyster is a testament to the rich heritage of Devon. When you think of seafood, you think of The Glorious Oyster.

Oysters may take centre stage, but the menu doesn’t stop there. With a range of seafood options, there’s bound to be something that stands out for you. Personally, I love their crab rolls – flaky crab meat seasoned to perfection and packed into a soft roll.

Sitting directly on the beach, the cafe offers a stunning ocean view. While I’m not sure if there’s something to be said about enjoying seafood in front of its natural habitat, I do know that it’s a relaxing atmosphere amidst the waves.

If you want to connect with them and see more of their menu, you can do so through their Facebook and Instagram.

Down End Cafe - Sri Lankan Curry

This cafe has something for everyone, from the early risers seeking an ideal start to the day or the evening wanders looking for a delightful end. Situated next to Croyde Bay in the Downend car park, the cafe sits in the perfect spot for a coastal culinary experience.

The cafe is renowned for its breakfast options, with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee promising a day full of energy and a hearty breakfast setting your right. Evenings are just as exciting, with plenty of options on the menu to satisfy whatever you’re feeling.

I particularly like their Sri Lankan curry – rich and aromatic. Plus, it makes for a great pairing with Croyde Bay’s beautiful scenery. Don’t forget that Bodhi’s cocktail bar sits right next door so that you can pair your meal with a refreshing drink.

Whether you’re a local or a visitor, you won’t regret checking them out.

Gobblebox

Tucked away in Woolacombe, Gobblebox is the place to go for epic loaded fries, juicy burgers, and crispy halloumi bites. This spot is all about indulgence, serving up proper portions and big flavours.

Their loaded fries are next level—piled high with delicious toppings, whether you’re into classic cheesy goodness, smoky pulled pork, or spicy jalapeños. Pair them with a side of halloumi bites and a fresh milkshake, and you’re in for a real treat.

If you’re exploring Woolacombe Beach and need a solid post-surf refuel, this is the spot. Check out their rave reviews on TripAdvisor here.

Freshwell Campsite - Chicken Burgers

Tucked away in the centre of Croyde, Freshwell’s and Cluck Street Food is a haven for fried chicken enthusiasts, with their innovative street food making them a must-visit spot.

Their Buffalo Chicken Burger isn’t one to miss. Think tender chicken doused in a tangy buffalo packed into a soft, fresh bun. I still find myself speechless every time I visit; you’d be crazy not to try this at least once on your trip.

If burgers aren’t your thing, I’d suggest their Sri Lankan, which pays homage to the rich flavours of Sri Lanka with an irresistible blend of spices, curry leaves and herbs.

Candy’s Cuisine - Asian

Candy’s Cuisine is one of those hidden gems you find yourself accidentally stumbling upon, which is precisely how I found them. Tucked away in the bustling streets of Devon, Candy’s Cuisine offers traditional Asian flavours with a modern twist.

I adore their Bao Buns, often referred to as ‘steamed buns’, which are soft, fluffy and packed with flavour. They make the perfect vessel for various fillings, and I’m all for it. You can find something to enjoy from Cha Shao BBQ Pork, Tofu & Vegetables or completely vegan options.

If you find yourself around the area, make sure to stop in. Your stomach will thank you for it!

Ember - Pizza

If you love authentic wood-fired pizza, then Ember Pizza is a must-visit. These guys are all about top-quality ingredients, hand-stretched dough, and perfectly fired crusts that bring out bold, smoky flavours.

Their Nduja & Honey Pizza is next level—spicy, rich, and balanced with a touch of sweetness. If you like your pizza with a little heat and a whole lot of flavour, this one’s for you.

You can check out their menu and order online here.
