Ocean Pitch Croyde: Your Ultimate Coastal Escape
If there’s one place that always feels like home, it’s Ocean Pitch Campsite in Croyde. Nestled in the heart of North Devon, this little slice of heaven has everything—epic coastal views, some of the best surf in the UK, and a community that just gets it. Whether you’re here to catch waves, kick back with a cold one, or just soak up the good vibes, Ocean Pitch never disappoints.
And, of course, it’s where you’ll find Biffen’s Kitchen, serving up banging breakfast barrels and epic evening street food. But before we get to that, let’s dive into what makes Ocean Pitch so special.

More Than Just a Campsite
Ocean Pitch isn’t just a spot to rest your head—it’s a lifestyle. Waking up to the sound of waves, stepping outside to fresh sea air, and knowing you’re just a stone’s throw from Croyde Beach—it’s what dreams are made of.
Whether you’re rocking up in a campervan or pitching a tent under the stars, this place has something for everyone. The facilities are top-notch too—clean showers, The Cool Hut (yep, that’s its actual name) with freezers and charging points, and even free Wi-Fi (because, let’s be real, the ‘gram needs to know about your surf sesh).

Adventure at Your Doorstep
Let’s get to the good stuff—what to do when you’re here.
Surf’s Up
Croyde is legendary for its waves. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just figuring out which foot goes where on a board, the surf here is next level. Plus, with surf schools and board hire nearby, there’s no excuse not to get out there.
Coastal Walks & Hikes
If you’re more of a boots-over-board kinda person, Baggy Point is a must-do. It’s a short walk from the campsite and offers up seriously stunning views over the coastline. And if you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can keep going along the South West Coast Path—guaranteed good vibes and great leg burn.
On Two Wheels… or Four Legs?
Croyde’s countryside is made for exploring by bike, with plenty of trails to cruise along. And if you fancy something different? Horse riding on the beach—yep, it’s a thing, and it’s just as magical as it sounds.
The Best Part? The Food.
Now, let’s talk about what really matters—the food! After a full day of surfing, hiking, or just hardcore chilling, you’ll need some serious fuel.
That’s where Biffen’s Kitchen comes in. We’re all about big flavours, bold ingredients, and a bit of fun—because eating should never be boring.
Morning Feeds: Breakfast Barrels
We do breakfast right. Our Croyde Breakfast Barrels are legendary—stuffed flatbreads packed with all the good stuff. Whether you go for The Bogan (bacon, sausage patty, fried egg & cheese), Mexicano (grilled chorizo, avo-no-cado, and chipotle honey) or something veggie-packed like the Croydeifornia, you’re in for a treat.
Evening Feasts: Street Food with a Twist
After a day in the sun, grab some Moroccan Mezze on Thursdays & Fridays, Katsu Curry at the weekend, or dive into our Korean, Indonesian & Caribbean-inspired dishes on other nights. It’s all fresh, fast, and full of flavour.
P.S. If you haven’t tried our halloumi fries, potato puffs, or our legendary pinkled onions, it's one for the bucket list.
Must-See Spots Around Croyde
If you fancy exploring beyond the campsite, there’s plenty to check out:
1. Baggy Point
This one’s a no-brainer. Baggy Point is just a short stroll from Ocean Pitch and serves up some of the best coastal views in the UK. The South West Coast Path runs right through it, making it perfect for a sunset walk, a sunrise mission, or just an easy stroll before grabbing breakfast at Biffen’s Kitchen.
- The Walk: A gentle 3-mile loop, or go further along the coast path for extra adventure.
- What’s Cool? Clifftop views, secret coves, and a chance to spot seals chilling on the rocks below.
- Where to Refuel? Cafe Croyde—perfect for a coffee & cake with a sea view after your walk.
2. Putsborough Beach
If Croyde Beach is buzzing and you fancy some space to yourself, head to Putsborough Beach. Just a 5-minute drive or a 30-minute walk from Croyde, it’s a quieter stretch of golden sand with insane views of Woolacombe Bay. The waves here can be smoother and less crowded than Croyde, making it a top pick for a fun surf session or a lazy beach day. Parking can be a bit pricey so make sure you go for a good amount of time and not just a quick visit. Can be £8-£12 single entry.
The Surf - Less busy than Croyde but still delivers epic waves all day, stunning views, and plenty of space.
Where to Eat? Walk towards Wolly and pop half way up the beach to Porthole Cafe. Amazing coffee, sandwiches and sweet treats with a view.
3. Woolacombe
Voted one of the best beaches in the UK, Woolacombe Beach is three miles of pure sandy goodness. It’s a top spot for surfing, sunbathing, and people-watching—if you’re after a long beach walk with some solid food stops, this is the one.
Getting There: 10-minute drive
What’s the Surf Like? More forgiving than Croyde, great for longboarders and beginners. Drive their early from Croyde as the back lane can get a tad busy!
Where to Refuel? Gooblebox is the one! Best food in the area.
4. Braunton
If you’re after a little culture, surf shops, and incredible food, Braunton is the spot. It’s a small, buzzing town just 10 minutes from Croyde and home to some of the best surf shops and eats in the area.
What to Check Out? The Museum of British Surfing is a must visit for that surfing education and then head out on the streets to enjoy all the surf shops around.
Where to Eat? You always need to grab a fish and chips from Squires, great value for money food but if you want something more adventurous, head to The Dive for their Korean burger!
5. Ilfracombe
For something a little different, Ilfracombe is where coastal charm meets quirky culture. It’s a fishing town with a twist—expect independent art galleries, stunning harbour views, and Damien Hirst’s massive “Verity” sculptureoverlooking the sea.
What’s Cool? A proper seaside town feel, great seafood, and some beautiful coastal walks.
Best Food Spot? The lime Kiln offers amazing food, coffee and views. check it out!
6. Exmoor National Park
A little further afield (about 40 minutes from Croyde) is Exmoor National Park, and it’s absolutely worth the trip. If you fancy swapping waves for wilderness, this is the place to be—think rolling hills, wild ponies, and dramatic coastline views.
Best Way to See It? Drive through Lynton & Lynmouth, take a hike along the Valley of Rocks, and soak up the insane scenery.
What to Do? Coastal hikes, pub lunches, and spotting the famous Exmoor ponies.
7. Clovelly
Want to feel like you’ve stepped into a storybook village? Clovelly is a must-see. It’s a car-free, cobbled street village that leads straight down to the sea—one of the most unique and picturesque places in North Devon.
What’s Unique? No cars, just donkeys & fishing boats.
What to Do? Explore the narrow streets, visit the local craft shops, and grab a drink at The Red Lion on the harbour.
Back to Croyde!

Honestly, Ocean Pitch is one of my all-time favourite places. Whether you’re riding waves, exploring the coastline, or just kicking back with a coffee from the van, there’s nowhere better to unwind.
So, if you’re heading to North Devon, come say hi at Biffen’s Kitchen—grab a barrel, chat about surf, and soak up the good vibes.
